India is by far Canada’s top source of international talent.
Canada received an all-time high of nearly 405,000 immigrants in 2021. Indian origins are represented by almost one-third of these immigrants.
Additionally, Canada accepted close to 450,000 foreign students last year, with Indians making up close to 50% of this number.
A total of 130,000 people received work permits under the International Mobility Program, while over 10,000 Indians migrated to Canada via the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
A mix of international and internal Canadian factors can explain the high rates of new immigrant arrivals from India.
India has a burgeoning middle class with the credentials needed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to grant a visa, including education, language proficiency, work experience, and settlement funds.
All Indians seeking to immigrate to Canada, whether as citizens, foreign workers, or international students, must possess these qualities.
Another significant international element is the rise in the number of Indian foreign workers who have recently moved to Canada in order to obtain permanent residence due to the U.S.’s lack of permanent residence paths.
